My first day as Assistant Commissioner at Virgin Records - under the tutelage of the legendary Head of Video, Carole Burton-Fairbrother - was the one-take video shoot for Wannabe, directed by Johan Camitz (RIP). We stood there watching Geri wobble-walk down the steps of what’s now the St Pancras Hotel in towering Westwood heels, fretting that there’s nowhere to hide with a one-take video, no cutting around it. But thankfully the girls’ chaotic realness became the whole point.

From that auspicious (ridiculous) first day, I assisted Carole on pretty much all the videos off the Spice Girls albums, Spice, Spiceworld, and Forever. And also off Mel C’s debut solo album, Northern Star, Victoria Beckham’s first solo single, “Out of Your Mind”, and Mel B’s debut solo album, Hot.

I even directed one of the videos off that album for Mel B, “Lullaby”. Why not!
