Script / story editor and creative sounding board on Ed Morris’s debut feature film, How to Stop a Recurring Dream.

I worked closely with Ed through development, helping him tighten story, character, structure, and tone as the film took shape.

Synopsis

When her parents announce an imminent split-custody separation, Yakira kidnaps her estranged younger sister, Kelly, and takes to the road in an attempt to reconnect before they are forced apart.

A dreamlike story about separation, loss, and two sisters trying to hold onto each other.

Written and directed by Ed, the film stars Ruby Barker (Bridgerton) as Yakira and Lily-Rose Aslandogdu (The Essex Serpent, The Alienist) as Kelly. It includes original music by Ibeyi and cinematography by Ivan Bird (Sexy Beast).

Made in collaboration with Rattling Stick and XL Recordings, the film received 23 official selections at international festivals, winning Best Feature at Aesthetica, Magnolia, and the British Urban Film Festival.

It was released on Apple TV.
