Film & Documentary

My approach to life - “student of everything” - has provided a little sidebar-sojourn into film and documentary as creative EP, story editor, script advisor, developer, and occasional producer. Handy skills for today’s slop-soaked world.

Nureyev

Directed by double BAFTA-nominated directors David & Jacqui Morris (McCullin, Attacking the Devil), Nureyev‍ ‍tells the life story of Russian ballet star and pop-culture icon Rudolf Nureyev, from humble beginnings to his meteoric rise, from defection to the West to his enduring legacy.

My role

I brought the project to Rattling Stick, helped negotiate the deal, provided story advice throughout production, and was creative EP for all original dance sequences choreographed by Russell Maliphant.

“A meticulous, heartbreaking tour de force.”

Leslie Felperin, The Guardian

“Instantly essential.”

Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter

How to Stop a Recurring Dream

The story of loss, grief and connection in the midst of separation. Starring Ruby Barker (Bridgerton), with original music by Ibeyiand cinematography by Ivan Bird (Sexy Beast), the debut feature written and directed by Ed Morris garnered 23 official selections at international festivals, winning Best Feature at Aesthetica, Magnolia, and the British Urban Film Festival.

My Role

Script / story editor, creative sounding board throughout,

“A tight, impeccably crafted affair with an outstanding lead performance from Ruby Barker.”

Paul Heath, The Hollywood News

Development

I developed various film and documentary projects with beautiful Ringan Ledwidge (RIP). I read a LOT of scripts for him, filtering for quality and fit. Developed a documentary series on Napoli football club in collaboration with Cosima Spender (almost went the distance - club caved at the last minute). Provided script advice on his remake of Under the Shadow. Developed a script about the story of Adel Euro. Provided early script advice on his feature idea, Car.

I also worked closely with TRAKTOR on film projects, especially with Ole Sanders on Halftime Hero - the story of West Ham "fan-becomes-player" Steve Davies, now placed at Scott Free.

One Hour of Girl Power

From the sublime to the ridiculous. I produced this documentary at the height of Spice Girls mania, just at the point when their first album had taken the world by storm and introduced us all to "girl power."

The fastest-selling music documentary of all time at the time, apparently. The frenzy around them was extraordinary.

Watch the whole film here (although I won’t force you.)

“Andy thinks strategically about longer term partnerships and opportunities and how to stay nimble and grasp the opportunities coming from the changes in distributors and financiers of content - and the creative possibilities emerging from that as well as zeitgeist trends to be grabbed.”

Ivana MacKinnon, BAFTA-winning producer, Beast, How to Have Sex
