Film, Doc, Format Development

Over the years I've worked in an official and unofficial development capacity on numerous movie and documentary projects, usually directly with the writer and/or director. Script and story development, world-building, idea generation, pitch and treatment writing, casting input. Whatever's needed!

I’ve also developed many formats for brands and beyond.

Halftime Hero

Halftime Hero is a movie written and directed by Ole Sanders.

“Set in 1994 London. Just as big-hearted, big-mouthed football supporter, Steve “Pringle” Davies (Boon) hits rock bottom, he gets pulled from the crowd by coach Harry Redknapp (Marsan) at halftime to play a professional game for his beloved West Ham United. It’s a million-to-one shot that just might save his relationship with his first love, Penny (Bamber), and get this glory-hunter’s life back on track.”

It’s Billy Elliot meets The Full Monty with a sprinkling of Trainspotting for good measure.

I started working on it with Ole back in 2016, and have provided script and story notes, 80s and 90s Midlands world-building, casting input, and much else besides ever since.

The film is now in post-production.

Chris Symes

Chris Symes is a Producer / Executive Producer whose credits include One Piece(Netflix), Black Sails (Amazon Prime), Game of Thrones (HBO), The Alienist (Netflix) and many more.

Chris also writes and develops his own movie and episodic projects. I’ve worked with him for many years providing script, story, character development, world-building, and idea generation.

Ringan Ledwidge

I developed numerous film and documentary projects with dear pal Ringan Ledwidge(RIP) when at Rattling Stick (and after I’d left). I script-read for him filtering for quality and fit. We developed a documentary series together on Napoli football club in collaboration with Cosima Spender (almost bought, club caved at the last minute). I provided script advice on his remake of Under the Shadow, developed a feature script with him about Iraqi Dancer Adel Euro, and provided early script advice on his feature idea, Car.

Formats

I created short-form episodic and competition formats for C4 and The Independent via Zinc Media across LGBTQIA+ sport, female tech pioneers, refugee cuisine, and thrifting.

I co-created Queens of the Phone Age for RedBull, an irreverent competition format that transposed terminally online Influencer behaviours into the real world and made actual Influencers compete to perform them IRL for points and clout (…on the brink of production, but then COVID happened).

I co-created Like News, But Social for Spotify, a weekly podcast comedy show about the week's news as it played out on social, the big stories, the social weather, and everything in between (…loved by Spotify, but the money wouldn’t work).

I co-created Death & Cake with Dr Martha Newson, a show about having healthy conversations about death, think Couples Therapy but the relationship’s with mortality (…still in development).

I also created new format ideas for Rolex’s Arts patronage programme.

“Andy thinks strategically about longer term partnerships and opportunities and how to stay nimble and grasp the opportunities coming from the changes in distributors and financiers of content - and the creative possibilities emerging from that as well as zeitgeist trends to be grabbed.”
