Film & Documentary
Nureyev
Directed by double BAFTA-nominated directors David & Jacqui Morris (McCullin, Attacking the Devil), Nureyev tells the life story of Russian ballet icon Rudolf Nureyev.
My role
Brought the project to Rattling Stick, helped negotiate the deal, provided story development advice throughout production, and was creative EP for all original dance sequences by famed choreographer Russell Maliphant.
The most celebrated male dancer of his time, Nureyev transcended the dance world to become a pop culture icon. The film charts his rise from humble beginnings to his defection to the West, an event that stunned the world. It features never-before-seen footage choreographed by Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, and Murray Lewis.
“A meticulous, heartbreaking tour de force.”
Leslie Felperin, The Guardian
“Instantly essential.”
Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter
How to Stop a Recurring Dream
The story of connection in the midst of separation. Starring Ruby Barker (Bridgerton), with original music by Ibeyi and cinematography by Ivan Bird (Sexy Beast), the debut feature written and directed by Ed Morris garnered 23 official selections at international festivals, winning Best Feature at Aesthetica, Magnolia, and the British Urban Film Festival.
My Role
Creative sounding board throughout, script / story editor.
“A tight, impeccably crafted affair with an outstanding lead performance from Ruby Barker.”
Paul Heath, The Hollywood News
“If you were doubtful of Barker in Bridgerton, definitely give this a watch, a stunning performance, and a great part.”
Sophie Cook, Filmhounds
Development
Involved in developing various film and documentary projects with Ringan Ledwidge. Read a LOT of scripts for him, filtering for quality/fit. Developed a documentary series on Napoli football club, in collaboration with Cosima Spender (almost went the distance - club caved at last minute). Provided script advice on remake of Under the Shadow. Developed script about the story of Adel Euro. Helped develop Silent Riot feature idea. Script advice on his feature idea, Car.
Also worked closely with TRAKTOR on film projects, especially with Ole Sanders on Halftime Hero, the - is it apocryphal? - story of West Ham “fan-becomes-player”, Steve Davies, now placed at Scott Free.
One Hour of Girl Power
From the sublime to the ridiculous. Produced this documentary at the height of Spice Girls mania, when their first album had taken the world by storm and introduced us all to "girl power."
The fastest-selling music documentary of all time at the time, apparently. The frenzy around them was extraordinary.
Watch the whole film here (Although I won’t force you.)
“Andy thinks strategically about longer term partnerships and opportunities and how to stay nimble and grasp the opportunities coming from the changes in distributors and financiers of content - and the creative possibilities emerging from that as well as zeitgeist trends to be grabbed.”
Ivana MacKinnon, BAFTA winning producer, Beast, How to Have Sex
